The Long Awaited Taleo Performance

systematicHR Avatar

Last week Taleo announced their long awaited performance management module.  I’ve been waiting for their talent management release for about a year since systemaciHR first heard about it. I’ve always thought they would be late to the game, and even though they have one of the best brands in talent acquisition, the fact that they are years late might present a problem from a marketing perspective.  Alleviating that is of course their incredible brand – along with SuccessFactors, arguably the best in the talent business.

Then along comes the release and a nifty little on-line demo of the product.  (I admit that I didn’t get through the whole thing yet as my PC decided to fail on my in the middle.)  As far as products go, I don’t know if this is a true re-visioning of who performance management works, but the Web 2.0 user interface is certainly getting my attention.  Among the screens that most caught my attention (perhaps Jason Corsello’s as well since it’s the shot he put on his website), was the manager view of their employees almost as a deck of cards laid out in front of them.  From here, the Web 2.0 comes in where the manager can individually flip an employee’s “card” to reveal a variety of information of the manager’s choice.  You could also do this at an aggregated level with a menu to the side that “flips” all the employees viewed at once.

There is some really great stuff here, and while I’m looking forward to see if it really does re-vision the entire end to end performance process, there is at the very least some nice and thoughtful visioning around how managers would better interact with the user interface to create a better user experience.

Watch here for more info if I get a demo of the product soon.
