{"id":173,"date":"2005-04-21T02:02:00","date_gmt":"2005-04-21T10:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=173"},"modified":"2005-12-02T21:36:38","modified_gmt":"2005-12-02T21:36:38","slug":"aberdeens-tm-study-reviewed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=173","title":{"rendered":"Aberdeen&#8217;s TM study reviewed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"clear:both;\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Aberneen\u2019s article points to several conclusions that talent acquisition is no longer a viable total solution for organizations lacking a total talent strategy.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>As employers face an aging workforce and possibly a lack of skilled talent in the employable population, employers must adopt broader talent management policies and strategies, rather than simply being reactionary in recruiting policies.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>While the study\u2019s subtitle is \u201cHiring right, hiring smart,\u201d I did feel that an overall TM strategy was the real focus.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Unfortunately the majority of the time <st1 :city><\/st1><st1 :place>Aberdeen<\/st1> defined TM as the staffing practice.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>There were a few occasions they talked about broader TM including succession, career development and internal mobility.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>However, the focus on staffing quite frankly irked me a bit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Really the whole point was to encourage employers to go beyond the traditional talent pool, something a lot of the bloggers (see below) have been talking about in the recent past, so this is not new news.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Also included as strategies were improved pre-hire assessments and onboarding policies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I was most disappointed by the study\u2019s key performance metrics.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>They showed stats on cost per hire and time per hire, but only a narrative on \u201cquality of hire.\u201d<span style=\"\">  <\/span>This metric was the one of most interest for me and I\u2019d love to know how people out there calculate and measure this.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>However, there was no discussion on the calc, simply a statement it was the most important metric.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>I suppose that\u2019s why you have 5 major vendors sponsoring the study, so they can contact you and tell you how.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">All in all, it\u2019s nice to see the work we do on the blogs validated by a \u201creal study.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Here are some recent links from other blogs:<br \/>On passive candidate pools:<span style=\"\">  <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/myhrblog.blogspot.com\/2005\/04\/quick-jobster-review.html\">Michael Specht<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/resourcingstrategies.blogspot.com\/2005\/03\/business-week-on-linkedin.html\">Andrew<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/hrtech.blogspot.com\/2005\/04\/more-on-informal-recruiting-networks.html\">Me<\/a><br \/>On ROI:<span style=\"\">  <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/strategichr.typepad.com\/the_future_of_hr_services\/2005\/04\/roi_analytics_a.html\">Oursourcing Blog<\/a><br \/>Applicant Tracking Systems:<span style=\"\">  <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/resourcingstrategies.blogspot.com\/2005\/03\/more-on-application-tracking-systems.html\">Andrew<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/hrtech.blogspot.com\/2005\/04\/ats-market.html\">Me<\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both; padding-bottom: 0.25em;\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aberneen\u2019s article points to several conclusions that talent acquisition is no longer a viable total solution for organizations lacking a total talent strategy.
