{"id":177,"date":"2005-04-20T01:56:00","date_gmt":"2005-04-20T09:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=177"},"modified":"2005-12-02T21:38:59","modified_gmt":"2005-12-02T21:38:59","slug":"benefit-compliance-and-vendors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=177","title":{"rendered":"Benefit compliance and vendors"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"clear:both;\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">I\u2019ll be on a benefits kick today.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>I visited an organization that allows it\u2019s broker access to the employee base in order to sell voluntary benefit plans.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>Due to their close relationship with the broker, they were adamant that the broker be allowed to do this.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>By voluntary I mean auto, home insurance and stuff like that.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>My question is why would you allow your benefits broker access to your employee base to sell benefits?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">First of all, you are setting a precedent for someone to talk to employees one on one.<span style=\"\">  <\/span>If you are a non-union organization, it\u2019s hard to keep unionizers outside because you have set a precedent that other 3<sup>rd<\/sup> parties can have access.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Second of all, with the whole Spitzer thing going on, do you really want your brokers collecting commissions on direct sales to your employee base?<span style=\"\">  <\/span>This has the potential of a smaller Marsh (they paid US $850M to settle).<span style=\"\">  <\/span>As the employer giving access, is it worth the risk?<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both; padding-bottom: 0.25em;\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ll be on a benefits kick today.
