{"id":525,"date":"2006-09-22T01:00:28","date_gmt":"2006-09-22T09:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=525"},"modified":"2006-08-04T21:07:57","modified_gmt":"2006-08-05T05:07:57","slug":"we-have-work-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=525","title":{"rendered":"We Have Work to Do"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">For all our lofty talk about employer branding, employee engagement, communications and change management, and for all the money we\u2019ve been spending on implementing technology, process and workflow, we don\u2019t seem to be tying the two together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">I won\u2019t be commenting heavily on this as I really think you should read the whitepaper of the survey results yourself (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.successfactors.com\/resources\/pdfs\/media\/SuccessFactors_GradingReport.pdf\">here<\/a>).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\" style=\"margin-top: 0in\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">The Review Process  Grade: C+  <\/span><\/strong>  ((SuccessFactors, June 2006.  \u201cWasted Human Capital:  The looming Talent Management Crisis in Corporate America.))<strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">78% complete company-wide performance reviews annually<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">72% reported being somewhat satisfied\/not very satisfied\/extremely dissatisfied<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\" style=\"margin-top: 0in\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Setting and Managing Goals and Objectives      Grade: D-<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">35% do not have\/do not know if there is a formal method for setting goals and objectives in their organization<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">58% face challenges tracking employee and department progress against goals<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">54% face challenges aligning employee goals with corporate strategy<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">47% face challenges giving employees visibility into management and corporate goals<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">48% face challenges cascading goals throughout the organization<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\" style=\"margin-top: 0in\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Compensation       Grade: F<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">56% reported that less than 50% of their employees are compensated and rewarded based on their performance and goals<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\" style=\"margin-top: 0in\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Succession Planning  Grade: C+<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">58% stated that there was no\/did not know if their organization has a succession planning strategy in place<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">48% face challenges with a lack of visibility into employee skills, experience level and career path<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">46% face challenges with an inability to quickly find a pool of qualified internal candidates for open positions<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">44% face challenges with a lack of visibility into bench strength for leadership positions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt\">Obviously SuccessFactors gives their own take on the issues along with some good \u201csolutions.\u201d  The bottom line is that either most of these organizations haven\u2019t taken the time to implement good programs (supported by good technology) or they haven\u2019t done an effective job with change management.  One way or another, the SuccessFactors solutions are not as easy as they sound.
