and Accessibility as Brand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When we think of the employer brand, how often are we thinking about our HR technology suite as contributors to that brand?\u00a0 In general, I\u2019m not talking about your HRMS type applications.\u00a0 Instead, the applications that touch employees and managers such as self service and portal are critical user interfaces that can offer a major contribution or detraction from your brand.\u00a0 I ask you just a few questions to give you an idea what to think about.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How many clicks?\u00a0 It\u2019s unbelievable how often the HR self service applications are not on the front page of an intranet.\u00a0 Often they are 3 or more clicks deep, or so poorly labeled that nobody knows it\u2019s there.<\/li>\n<li>Can they find things (1)?\u00a0 Once they find the links to self service, then they need to navigate the complex maze of payroll, benefits, timekeeping, performance, and other applications.\u00a0 Did you list timekeeping in a high profile place?\u00a0 It is after all the link they need on a daily basis.\u00a0 How about the total compensation statement?\u00a0 Buried under the payroll link?\u00a0 What would you rather your employee\u2019s look at to enforce your brand?<\/li>\n<li>Can they find things (2)?\u00a0 So they got to the benefits portal.\u00a0 The problem is that the portal is so out of shape that they\u2019ve been searching the site for 3 minutes and finally found the phone number to the call center.\u00a0 They gave up.<\/li>\n<li>Is the information useful?\u00a0 Oh \u2013 wait.\u00a0 They did find the information they were looking for.\u00a0 The dental co-pay is $20 and the deductible is $1000.\u00a0 Now what services apply towards the deductible?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ahh right, it requires a phone call to the provider.<\/li>\n<li>How many log-ins?\u00a0 Better yet, your benefits provider does not support single sign-on, and neither does your legacy timekeeping solution.\u00a0 Your HRMS log-in for payroll statements does support single sign-on, but their security features require 8 digits and your LAN ID is only 6 digits.\u00a0 We all already have 500 log-ins in our personal lives.\u00a0 Most employee\u2019s don\u2019t remember all of HR\u2019s log-ins \u2013 especially the ones used once a year like benefits enrollment.<\/li>\n<li>Do the applications have similar design?\u00a0 I love Kronos blue.\u00a0 And ADP red.\u00a0 And That dog that used to run in PeopleSoft.\u00a0 Nice to know that every self service site your employees go to will look completely different, isn\u2019t it?<\/li>\n<li>If individual sub-brands are needed, do they support the overall brand?\u00a0 So your learning organization developed their own brand?\u00a0 How does it fit?\u00a0 Did you know about it and have an opportunity to coordinate both the messages and the presentation of the brand?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Often your technology applications are the most visible
