{"id":693,"date":"2007-04-30T01:00:25","date_gmt":"2007-04-30T09:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=693"},"modified":"2007-04-30T01:00:50","modified_gmt":"2007-04-30T09:00:50","slug":"employee-engagement-improves-organizational-agility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=693","title":{"rendered":"Employee Engagement Improves Organizational Agility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mckinsey Quarterly survey of barriers to agility and speed related to behavior and attitude ranked \u201cemployees lacking a sense of purpose commitment, motivation\u201d as the number 1 factor inhibiting business speed and agility.\u00a0 ((Miranda, Thiel, 2007.\u00a0 \u201cImproving Organizational Speed and Agility.\u201d\u00a0 McKinsey Quarterly 2007 Number 1.\u00a0 Page 14))\u00a0 With over 1500 business executives surveyed, 33% stated that employees lacking what I\u2019ll paraphrase as \u201cengagement\u201d is a pretty large number.<\/p>\n<p>We spend a lot of time talking about talent and our workforce needs.\u00a0 Rightly so, and CEO\u2019s have been expressing the need to get a handle on talent for a couple years now \u2013 it\u2019s the right shift to have made.\u00a0 However, notice that the barrier to organizational agility doesn\u2019t have to do with having the right talent or acquiring it.\u00a0 Instead, engaging employees is up there.\u00a0 In fact, learning and development opportunities came in almost last with only 7% showing.<\/p>\n<p>As far as I\u2019m concerned, this comes pretty close to a mandate that I\u2019ve ever seen for an HR topic that most people don\u2019t talk about regularly.\u00a0 At systematicHR we\u2019ve tied employee engagement to enhanced business productivity and even innovations, but we haven\u2019t talked much about agility.\u00a0 The McKinsey defined agility as the ability to change tactics or direction quickly.<\/p>\n<p>As I\u2019ve talked about talent, I\u2019m going to keep drilling my vision.\u00a0 Talent needs to be engaged, nimble and integrated with business and product innovation.\u00a0 Not only do we need to understand what our talent is and who has the right competencies, but we need to be able to move the right talent into the right projects quickly and seamlessly.\u00a0 To do this, our talent networks (which need to be created) need to be integrated with innovation networks and social networks.\u00a0 Basically, understanding who has talent isn\u2019t enough.\u00a0 However, putting talent together with influence and driving innovation through those combined channels is the work of our future.<\/p>\n<p>If you take that vision and engage the senior workforce, you have my version of a business model for HR that supports innovation, productivity and HR\u2019s heightened contribution to strategy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mckinsey Quarterly survey of barriers to agility and speed related to behavior and attitude ranked \u201cemployees lacking a sense of purpose commitment, motivation\u201d as the number 1 factor inhibiting business speed and agility.\u00a0 ((Miranda, Thiel, 2007.\u00a0 \u201cImproving Organizational Speed&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_coblocks_attr":"","_coblocks_dimensions":"","_coblocks_responsive_height":"","_coblocks_accordion_ie_support":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[10,8,44,20],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-693","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-engagement","category-strategies","category-innovation","category-talent-management"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/693","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=693"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/693\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=693"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=693"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=693"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
