{"id":768,"date":"2007-08-22T01:00:37","date_gmt":"2007-08-22T09:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=768"},"modified":"2007-08-22T01:00:46","modified_gmt":"2007-08-22T09:00:46","slug":"enabling-versus-empowering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=768","title":{"rendered":"Enabling versus Empowering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In HRIT we spend so much time implementing and rolling out systems that we implicitly know that change management is an important part of any implementation.\u00a0 Vendors usually provide training, and communications are a well known part of any roll-out process.\u00a0 The question is whether these are enough.\u00a0 The answer is an absolute \u201cno.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019ve all experienced roll-outs of terrific products that we\u2019ve poured our hearts and souls into implementing, only to have managers and employees complain or simply ignore them.\u00a0 Training and communications is not enough.\u00a0 Empowering your employees and managers to act on their own does not actually mean they have anything other than tools.\u00a0 I\u2019ve talked a lot over the last couple of years around change management: the difference between what most people treat as change and real behavioral change.<\/p>\n<p>Most people think training and some light communications is all that\u2019s needed.\u00a0 After you put in some really cool portals or analytics, you write a few e-mails, send out some flashy communications, send everyone to training, and think your job is done.\u00a0 This is empowerment.\u00a0 Your managers and employees are now empowered to act on their own accord within the parameters you have set out for them.\u00a0 Real behavioral change is getting them to really want to act on their own accord, having them have some true understanding of the tools and value behind them, and getting them to approach their work differently due to the new tools they have available.\u00a0 This is enablement.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes down to it, we can train our employees all we want.\u00a0 There\u2019s a critical factor of adoption however, and all the training and communications only get you so far.\u00a0 You have to truly understand the value proposition for each employee population you\u2019re targeting to increase the adoption for them.\u00a0 It\u2019s not about giving employees and managers the tools to do their jobs, it\u2019s about making them feel like these new tools are indispensable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In HRIT we spend so much time implementing and rolling out systems that we implicitly know that change management is an important part of any implementation.\u00a0 Vendors usually provide training, and communications are a well known part of any roll-out&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_coblocks_attr":"","_coblocks_dimensions":"","_coblocks_responsive_height":"","_coblocks_accordion_ie_support":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[37,8,2,34],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-768","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-change-management","category-strategies","category-hr-technology","category-implementation"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/768","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=768"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/768\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=768"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=768"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=768"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
