{"id":888,"date":"2008-04-24T01:00:34","date_gmt":"2008-04-24T09:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=888"},"modified":"2008-04-24T01:00:57","modified_gmt":"2008-04-24T09:00:57","slug":"%e2%80%9ctalent%e2%80%9d-as-marketing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=888","title":{"rendered":"\u201cTalent\u201d as Marketing?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seth Godin\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/sethgodin.typepad.com\/seths_blog\/2008\/02\/marketing-hr.html\">recent post<\/a> on Talent and marketing HR hit home on may fronts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What if you started acting like the VP of Talent? Understanding that talent is hard to find and not obvious to manage. The VP of Talent would have to reorganize the department and do things differently all day long (small example: talent shouldn&#8217;t have to fill out reams of forms and argue with the insurance company&#8230; talent is too busy for that&#8230; talent has people to help with that.)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Seth\u2019s point that perhaps we should just rename and market ourselves from HR to Talent seems to be a decent idea.\u00a0 As he points out, simply renaming is not an option.\u00a0 We have to throw ourselves into the endeavor with additional focus and understanding.<\/p>\n<p>I however, don\u2019t believe we should rename ourselves to talent.\u00a0 Talent to me is simply the latest way that HR has derived to provide ourselves with direction.\u00a0 I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s a bad thing that we are focused on talent, I personally love it and think it\u2019s great.\u00a0 However, in 5 or 10 years, there will probably be a new way to reinvent ourselves that may be more relevant for the next decade.\u00a0 \u201cTalent\u201d will be relevant for a very long time, but it may not be what is leading in the minds of business executives.\u00a0 I think the brand \u201cHuman Resources\u201d is as generic as anything else and while it may not be the perfect brand, it may be more timeless.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seth Godin\u2019s recent post on Talent and marketing HR hit home on may fronts.\u00a0 What if you started acting like the VP of Talent?
