{"id":940,"date":"2008-08-19T01:00:08","date_gmt":"2008-08-19T09:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=940"},"modified":"2008-08-19T01:00:10","modified_gmt":"2008-08-19T09:00:10","slug":"social-media-gen-y-and-the-workplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systematichr.com\/?p=940","title":{"rendered":"Social Media, Gen Y and the Workplace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/specht.com.au\/michael\/2008\/07\/17\/social-media-and-generation-y\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Specht<\/a> linked over to some survey results presented by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/industry\/financialservices\/insurance\/acord.mspx\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft and Insurity<\/a>.\u00a0 There were a couple of interesting findings and in my opinion they certainly do point to our need to change how the workplace operates, not only for Gen Y, but also for the sake of business growth and overall collaboration.\u00a0 To simply say that we need to implement social media tools for the sake of Gen Y would be erroneous as these are great tools for the sake of collaboration alone.\u00a0 To steal some of Michael\u2019s text:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Less than 50% would expect or use the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00ad\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 social networking sites (40%)<\/li>\n<li>\u00ad\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 company provided virtual meetings (42%)<\/li>\n<li>\u00ad\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 personal instant messenger (45%)<\/li>\n<li>\u00ad\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 mobile or smart phones paid by company (48%)<\/li>\n<li>\u00ad\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wikipedia or other Wikis (49%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>My honest reaction is not that less than 50% of Gen Y expects these tools, but \u201cwow!
