Today’s workplace is drastically different from what it used to be years ago. My dad always reminds me that there was once a time in which copy machines were the only kind of technology an office contained. Today offices are flooded with laptops, smartphones, tablets, Wi-Fi and everything in between. These social, mobile and cloud technologies allow you to get the job done efficiently and streamline tedious parts of your workload. Yet, technology can be applied to parts of the office that lie outside the traditional business aspects.
When the words “Human Resources” are brought up, technology is rarely the first thing that comes to mind. Yet, if you take a closer look at this field and the many ways in which the workplace is transforming, it is evident that technology can play a major part in connecting and engaging employees. The same tools we use to email our offices overseas or contact clients across the country should be used to build a cohesive company atmosphere.
It is no longer necessary to unplug from our laptops to achieve the goals of Human Resources. All we have to do is turn off our smartphones, refrain from checking our emails and enter a virtual portal in which we can communicate with our co-workers and build a team through online interactions. If we use the power of technology to connect a team of employees, who knows what kind of progress they will achieve? It is time to think outside of the box when it comes to the department of HR and look to more innovative solutions when it comes to promoting an engaging work environment.
