Real Lesson from Despair.com: Conformity

When people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate each other. ((Despair.com))

There really is a lesson in here. It’s about change management and how you decide to select your core change team as well as how they influence others. One of the keys to change management is who you select to be on your core team. For change to really work, your core team must be filled with influential employees that others will naturally follow. This is harder than it sounds – rather than selecting people in leadership positions, your change team should be made up of people who are leaders. While we hope this is the same group of employees, often it is not.

Despair.com identifies a core problem with change management. If you don’t have the right team of people in place, you won’t ever achieve the type of change you’re going for. This is because people will always choose to imitate those people who are the true leaders in your organization. If those true leaders are not the people who you have on your team, and are also not the people you’ve gotten buy-in from initially, they simply may not be available to sell your new environment to the rest of the employee population.
